Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we hear most often — all in one place.

Is HaruKorean really free?
Yes — every feature is completely free. No account, no login, no subscription. We cover operating costs through the ads displayed on pages. Content currently published will remain free even if we add premium tiers in the future.
Can I start if I know zero Korean?
Absolutely. Start with Level 1 (Hangul Basics) and work through the alphabet step by step. If you're not sure where to begin, try our 12-question placement test.
Is there a mobile app?
There is no native app. However, the site is fully mobile-optimized, so adding it to your phone's home screen gives you an app-like experience.
How long does Hangul take to learn?
Most learners can read and write Hangul within 1–2 weeks at roughly 30 minutes/day. Work through our Hangul guide alongside Level 1 lessons.
Is the pronunciation audio recorded by a native speaker?
We use high-quality Korean TTS from Microsoft Edge (voice: ko-KR-SunHiNeural). It sounds natural but is AI-generated, not a human recording. When a file fails to load, the browser's Web Speech API is used as a fallback.
Do new lessons drop daily?
All 60+ lessons are already published. A separate "Daily Expression" rotates every day with a new useful phrase. New lessons are added on an irregular cadence — if there's a topic you want, let us know via contact.
Does the site save my progress?
Because HaruKorean has no accounts, we don't currently sync progress across devices. Your UI language preference and placement-test results are saved in the browser's localStorage only. Cross-device progress tracking is on our roadmap.
How do I switch between English and Japanese?
Use the "English / 日本語" toggle in the top-right of every page. Your choice is remembered for future visits. URLs under /ja/... are Japanese; the rest are English.
Audio doesn't play on my phone — what should I check?
Some browsers (especially iOS Safari) block autoplay until you tap a button. Always tap the 🔊 button to start playback. If there's still no sound, check your device volume, silent mode switch, and the browser's sound permission for this site.
Can I use this to prep for TOPIK?
Levels 1–7 broadly cover the foundation needed for TOPIK I–II, but HaruKorean is not a dedicated TOPIK prep course. Use us for vocabulary and grammar fundamentals, and pair with official TOPIK past papers for exam-specific practice.
I spotted a mistake — what should I do?
Please let us know. Include the page URL and a short description of what's wrong. We usually follow up after fixing it.
Can I use HaruKorean content in my blog or classroom?
Personal study use is fine. Republishing, redistribution, or commercial use is not permitted without written permission. For educational-use requests please contact us. See our Terms of Service for the full policy.
