Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 22, 2026

HaruKorean ("we", "us", or "the site") respects your privacy and is committed to handling your information responsibly. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

HaruKorean does not require account registration. We handle data as follows:

  • Information we do NOT collect: names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, passwords, or payment information. You can use the entire site without giving us any personally identifying information.
  • Information collected automatically: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referrer, date and time of access, URLs visited, and screen size — the standard technical data logged by any web server or analytics tool.
  • Information stored locally in your browser: your UI language preference (English / Japanese) and placement-test results are saved to your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.

2. How We Use Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the service
  • To detect and prevent abuse or attacks
  • To analyze aggregate traffic (e.g., which lessons are most popular)
  • To serve advertisements (see "Advertising" below)

3. Cookies

We use cookies to improve your experience and to serve ads. Cookies fall into the following categories on this site:

  • Essential cookies — needed for the site to function.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — used to measure page views, time-on-page, and other anonymized metrics so we can improve content.
  • Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) — used to show ads that are potentially more relevant to you based on your browsing history.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work as expected.

4. Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site uses Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service provided by Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

For more details on how Google uses cookies in advertising, please review Google's Advertising Policies.

5. Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymized traffic data, which is processed by Google under its own privacy policy (available at policies.google.com/privacy). To opt out of Google Analytics tracking, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

6. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services:

7. Data Retention

Server access logs are retained for up to 90 days for operational and security purposes, then discarded. Google Analytics data retention is set to 26 months. Data stored in your browser's localStorage can be cleared by you at any time through browser settings.

8. Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that information.

9. International Data Transfers

Because the site is served through Cloudflare's global edge network, your request is processed at the server physically closest to you. Google services may process data in the United States and other countries.

10. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you are in the EU / EEA (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have rights over your personal information — including access, correction, deletion, and restriction of processing. To exercise any of these rights, please reach out via the contact page. Because we do not collect personally identifying information, we may not hold any data tied to you individually.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the service or applicable laws. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We recommend reviewing this page periodically.
