Everyday conversations: shopping, restaurants, transportation
- Order food and shop in Korean
- Ask for directions and use public transit
- Handle common everyday situations
Level 4 — Daily Conversations: Korean Outside the Textbook
By Level 4, you have the alphabet, basic greetings, and the core particle system. Now it's time to use them. This level pulls the curriculum out of the textbook and into actual situations: ordering at a 김밥천국 (Korean rice roll chain), navigating Seoul Metro, asking shopkeepers for sizes and prices, hailing taxis, paying with card or cash, and handling the small everyday interactions that fill 90% of a real visit to Korea.
We deliberately use vocabulary that you would actually hear in a Seoul or Busan café, not the generic textbook nouns. The food vocabulary covers what is actually on menus (떡볶이, 김밥, 라면, 비빔밥, 김치찌개, 짬뽕, 짜장면) rather than abstract food-category words. The transit vocabulary covers Naver Map / Kakao Map terminology you will actually see on your phone. Shopping vocabulary covers what a 마트 cashier actually says (영수증 필요하세요?, 봉투 드릴까요?, 적립카드 있으세요?).
Grammar at this level focuses on the patterns that make conversations flow: -아/어 주세요 for polite requests, -(으)ㄹ게요 for casual commitments, -(으)ㄹ까요? for suggestions, and the basic past tense -았/었-. Combined with Level 3 particles, these patterns let you handle the back-and-forth of ordinary conversation without freezing mid-sentence.
By the end of this level you will:
- Order food and drinks at a Korean café or restaurant naturally
- Use Seoul Metro, buses, and taxis with confidence
- Shop, ask prices, and handle payment at any Korean store
- Express past actions and make casual polite requests
